My First Archiving Project

Today was my first day working in an archive. I’d been wanting some hands-on experience with archiving ahead of my intro course this fall. Natalie, the McGreal Archivist, gave me three project options, and I felt the most interested in Sister Kennedy’s files on Father Samuel Mazzuchelli.

Look at this wonderful box!

Sr. Kennedy kept meticulous records of her work to have Fr. Mazzuchelli canonized. I feel honored to work on this project because this work was clearly very important to her. According to Natalie I have great questions about the work.

I had such a great time today, and really enjoyed learning some of the basics and putting what I learned into practice in a way that helps Natalie.

Also, Sr. Kennedy had correspondence from someone about one of Fr. Mazzuchelli’s living relatives (in 2009). There was also correspondence from that relative to Sr. Kennedy in 2016. The rush I experienced when I encountered this was indescribable.
