Northwestern’s Transportation Library

Today, I visited Northwestern’s Transportation library, which contains over half a million items. The library is housed in the university library designed by brutalist architect Walter Netsch.

Rachel was such a gracious host.

Rachel Cole, the collection’s Curator and Head, was our host, and the tour and discussion with her were amazing. I learned a lot of interesting things about my profession. My key takeaway is that I do not necessarily have to choose one or the other with archiving vs librarianship. I can do both. I can do All-the-Things!

Rachel told me that she did not enter the profession thinking she’d be curating a collection. Things happened organically for her, which I find compelling.
